Narcissism and the Jezebel Spirit are more intertwined than you might think.
What the natural world calls Narcissistic personality disorder(or NPD), the spirit world calls possession by the Jezebel spirit.
Although hailed by different monikers, not surprisingly, both carry the same sadistic ideology.
Unfortunately, you need to be clinically certified to diagnose or even imply that someone has NPD.
Without credentials – no amount of gaslighting you’ve learned to navigate, abuse you’ve endured, or boxes you’ve checked off on a Quora personality test is enough to qualify you to call the world’s worst narcissists what they are.
Similarly, the natural world does not readily discern things of the spirit 1 Corinthians 2:14. While some people have difficulty believing there is an invisible influence behind everything happening in our natural world – others are aware, yet still have trouble recognizing the spiritual components of natural phenomena like narcissism.
Narcissism
According to The Mayo Clinic, “Narcissistic personality disorder(NPD) is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their importance.
They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them.”
I'm no medical professional, nor do I profess to have any credentials in the realm of mental health.
But, and this is not to throw shade – BUT, this description makes the term NPD sound like just a child’s temper tantrum.
If you have experienced NPD abuse in any capacity, you are probably gagging at this definition. Because you know the disorder is far more vicious than that!
While these characterizations are accurate, they are also incomplete.
They fail to mention the more sinister markers of NPD. Like the manipulation tactics, people with this disorder use to trap and control their victims. Or the lengths they will go to make the victim appear as the culprit.
You will need to do far more research to discover the ways narcissists isolate victims from friends and family. Or how they are willing to do anything (including kill) to make the narrative fit their desired result.
Thankfully, there is unlimited information to confirm that NPD carries traits far exceeding grandiosity or the need for admiration.
Anyone who has encountered a narcissist can attest to the feelings of insecurity and uncertainty they leave in their wake.
You can vouch for the mental, physical, emotional, and financial demise you experience after these encounters.
According to studies – the turmoil narcissists leave a victim in is similar to the effects of the death of a loved one.
People with NPD cause division within families and churches.
They steal the identities of their prey and masquerade them as their own. Leaving the person without a sense of essence or value. Narcissists kill the spirit and purpose of their targets. They stifle their voice until the victim is just a shell of their former self.
The enemy designs this encounter to kill you spiritually and prohibit the plans God has for your life.
The Jezebel Spirit
Although the Bible does not mention the term Jezebel Spirit expressly, it lists the characteristics(very comparable to those of NPD) of someone embodying the spirit and it explicitly discourages our tolerance of them.
We first hear of Jezebel (and her spirit) when King Ahab of Israel disobediently marries her. She introduces him to the idol-worshiping customs of her people.
Ahab’s connection with Jezebel ultimately turns the hearts of the people away from God and toward idols.
Jezebel ushered in the spiritual death of the whole nation of Israel through her blatant disregard for God’s commands. She then killed the prophets of God who attempted to lead the people away from their rebelliousness.
In 1 Kings 21 Jezebel brings a charge against an innocent man so she can steal his land.
Without remorse and by sheer deception, Jezebel has Naboth killed through false accusations so she and Ahab can take over.
The Biblical text conveys that someone with the Spirit of Jezebel is not opposed to killing if it advances their assignment.
In Revelation 2:20, during John’s vision of the risen Christ, John is instructed to tell the church at Thyatira that their offense is that they tolerate Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and seduces God’s servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
From this heavenly charge, we can determine that the Jezebel spirit seduces the people of God away from holiness and entices them to immorality and idol worship.
The Hidden Demon
Where one of these is considered a personality disorder, and the other is a biblical concept of a spiritual entity we can not physically see. How do we associate the two? First, it’s imperative to remember that everything is spiritual, even things we can’t see naturally.
Some personality disorders, mental and physical ailments, and learning disabilities are natural manifestations of something happening behind the scenes spiritually. Of course, this is not all-inclusive, and some disorders are more complex. However, it is safe to say that many things we face in the natural are a result of spiritual matters.
We should take every natural thing we face back to The Lord for clarity on its origin and how to combat it.
Natural world speaking -
A person with NPD is just someone with an emotional developmental illness that prevents them from considering the well-being of others. The condition serves as somewhat of a crutch for their behavior.
But, as the elect, chosen before the foundation of the world – we understand that lack of consideration for our fellow man is an insidious offense to God and his commandments.
People with NPD are not victims of a mental illness they can not control. (None of us have control of our mental state without Jesus as our savior!).
Not unlike the blatantly rebellious Jezebel spirit, people with NPD are casualties of a rogue heart who decided to give in to the evil voices in their heads rather than listen for the good.
Isn’t this how the enemy operates? He plants thoughts, feelings, and ideas in our minds that we adopt as ours until we find ourselves operating from his directive. People with NPD have succumbed to his calling, fully controlled by the Jezebel spirit in them, which influences their arrogance, their lack of regard for the things of God, and their abuse of his people.
Spiritual world speaking -
We know that someone with blatant and arrogant disregard not only for their fellow man but also for God and things of the spirit needs deliverance. We do not accept nor tolerate ill treatment from demonic forces.
Jezebel is the demonic spirit hiding behind the world’s more favorable term – Narcissism!
The enemy has convinced us that NPD is an acknowledged mental illness, so rather than cast out the demonic Jezebel Spirit, we have learned to live with it, to bear it. To pamper the demon and tiptoe around its evil influence.
What better way to implant discord into an entire body of people than to command as ordinary an elusive lollipop term and definition for one of hell’s most deceptive and demonic weapons in its arsenal – NPD. The enemy knows very well that the natural-minded man can not and will not discern the things of the spirit.
The worldly solution is to appease the demon and coddle it using sociable words like adolescent trauma to describe what it truly is – The Jezebel spirit in worldly, therefore tolerated, disguise.
Since the world agrees that NPD is a disorder, we should make room for understanding!
The worldly logic is that we should have compassion and tolerate a group of people who operate from demonic influence because society has used the term mental illness to describe them.
Biblically speaking - We do not tolerate demonic influence.
We cast it out by the blood of Jesus!
Name any other instance where a victim would find themself having compassion for their abuser! I’ll wait. The greatest trick the enemy ever played was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
If I planned to arrest and ultimately destroy you spiritually, then my strategy would, without a doubt, be to make sure you never see it coming! I would use socially accepted terminology to describe my oppression of you so it seems more common.
Narcissism and the Jezebel Spirit are the same peas in a demonic pod!
Both seduce people into idol worship – narcissism persuades worship to the person with NPD and Jezebel to any outside influence other than the one true God. Both influence the victim away from the purposes of God and cause division within their sphere of power.
Satan has many goals for infiltrating your life with Narcissistic or Jezebelic influence. But his main objective is to construct your spiritual demise. The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. Not for any other reason! The spirit comes as an angel of light. The narcissist comes as everything you could have ever dreamed of. Both are covert in their pursuits until they feel mighty enough to overtake you with sin. Then, you are left depleted with no spiritual muscle to defend yourself.
How to deal with what's behind the mask
So, if the only people who are legally able to diagnose NPD are doctors of psychology.
And we can not physically see through natural eyes when someone carries the Jezebel Spirit – The only chance we have at protecting ourselves from these spiritual vampires is through Holy Spirit revelation and covering.
This spirit is covert.
It will not walk up to you and admit what it is.
You will require insight from God to know when you are dealing with Jezebel (or NPD).
Regular communication with The Holy Spirit will give you the revelation to determine if a person carries this spirit and how you should move forward in your interactions with them.
If you are cursed yet blessed enough to have already had experiences with this demon – you are ahead of the game. You are aware of how it operates. So you can detect some of the tricks and deception. You know the traits to look for if this demonic entity crosses your path again.
It is wise to get comfortable using the terms narcissism and the Jezebel spirit interchangeably. When you hear the word narcissism, you should automatically discern that this is someone under demonic possession by the Jezebel spirit. We do not feel sorry for them. Nor do we attempt to understand why they are this way. And we certainly do not entertain their influence in our lives. We do not play with demons!
You should immediately be calling on The Lord for intercession.
Jezebel(narcissism) will not play fair. There is no need to try to remain amicable with this person. Remove yourself from the equation and pray for them from a distance. This demonic force will only leave destruction in their wake.
Don’t make the mistake of believing that Jezebel only possesses women because of the name!
Like NPD does not have a preference for gender, race, beliefs, etc., Neither does the Jezebelic demon hiding behind it. The character traits may be different, but narcissism and the Jezebel spirit are alive and active in both men and women.
NPD abuse is one of, if not the most difficult thing to recover from because it fractures your soul. It pokes holes in your identity and causes you to question everything you’ve ever known. But be encouraged – this is where God does his best work.
Jezebel, or narcissists, are sent by the enemy for destruction. But this is allowed by God for elevation!
We know that what the enemy means for evil, God uses for good. So, when he permits narcissism and the Jezebel Spirit to come your way, it is because he is ready to deliver and elevate you.
When God allows the enemy to slither Jezebel into your life, he is ready to show you who you really are! The you that he intended for you to be before the world told you who you should be. You can check out the related post on why God allows our suffering here.
Albeit painful, there is no better feeling than knowing the enemy gave you his best shot in that narcissistic abuse you took from the Jezebel Spirit, but God loved you so much that He kept you through it all.
Then, he dusted you off, put you on the potter’s wheel, fixed up the broken, fragile pieces, and made you so strong in him that the demon will never be able to deceive you again.
That is the point!
Be Blessed, And Be A Blessing!
